AWARDS

The Lillian Holbrook Future Educators Scholarship

The foundation believes that the cornerstone of a strong education are our parents and teachers and assures it is our responsibility to invest in the future by investing in our students today. With that belief, the Bridgewater Raynham Educational Foundation established a future educators scholarship that will be awarded every year to a graduating senior from the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School who is entering into a teacher preparation program. With the establishment of this scholarship, the Foundation is recognizing a retired Bridgewater-Raynham teacher who spent 31 years teaching and after retirement decided that she had more work to do and focused her efforts on establishing The Bridgewater-Raynham Educational Foundation. The scholarship will be known as “The Lillian Holbrook Future Educators Scholarship”.

Staff Award of Excellence

Judy MacDougall Award of Excellence Recipient

The Foundation established a Staff Award of Excellence to an employee of the district that goes above and beyond in their position. This year’s award was extra special because the Foundation not only presented the award for the first time but it also named the award after the first recipient. The recipient of the award worked behind the scenes to help create the Foundation and worked tirelessly after hours to help get the Foundation off the ground. The amount of pride the award recipient has for the communities and the success of our students is evident in all that she does and second only to the pride she has for her own family. As the matriarch of a military family, the award recipient knows and understands the meaning of service for the greater good. Her commitment to the students and families of the District is remarkable. Her positive attitude and uplifting spirit impacts everyone she comes in contact with.

The Foundation was proud to present the First Annual Bridgewater-Raynham Educational Foundation Judy MacDougall Award for Excellence to our colleague and friend of the Foundation, Judy MacDougall.

Erin Grist, 2023 Recipient: During the pandemic she organized a consistent process for her grade level team and offered ideas that were fun and challenging to engage students beyond just busy work. When only 45 minutes a week of google meets was expected, this teacher focused her time on students who were behind in their skills by holding daily reading groups and individual sessions. She even invited another grade level class to her meet-ups when the teacher of this class was on leave.

Those that she has mentored have been well prepared and continue to seek her leadership and guidance. Last summer she opened her home to new teachers to review the first six weeks of work, helping them anticipate what to expect, and what they needed to get started, and even scheduled planning sessions for them during the first part of the school year. When she sees a teacher struggling with a challenging student, she offers her personal time after school to help with techniques and strategies that may be helpful.

When one of the families in our district experienced a house fire, she immediately donated clothes and toys to help make the transition easier. She also keeps an eye out for students who are homeless and in great need. This teacher attends sporting events and dance recitals in support of her students past and present and volunteers her time every year to participate in the Road to Kindergarten. She dresses up and reads to the incoming kindergarteners,to inspire their love of reading and feel less anxious about going to kindergarten.
